Breaks are a time in a student’s life that they look forward to because of the time off from school and opportunities to spend time with loved ones.
For Keringtyn Clemons, her spring break consisted of “going out with my friends on sidequests and planning for my trip to Japan during Lakeside’s Spring Break.”
Breaks away from school are also a good point in time to re-evaluate priorities for the upcoming school term.
While still on the topic of school, many juniors and seniors like Blaire Griffiths are touring colleges during the time away from school.
Blaire states, “I’ll be touring Auburn University during the break, which I plan on applying to. Auburn isn’t my first pick, although I have also toured North Carolina A&T, LSU, Vanderbilt, Xavier, Duke, and Tulane University.”
School seems to be the focus of a scholar’s life even when school isn’t in session. During a long-awaited break away from school, you can expect to hear a thing or two about the stressful day-to-day life you will have to return to very soon.
For Nyla Palmer, she states, “School is always on my mind even when I don’t want it to be. Junior year is like a mountain of work piling on top of one another, while also rushing you to decide how to plan the rest of your life and career path at the same time.”
Breaks can also consist of fun activities! Atlanta has a lot to offer, from expensive nights out to even fun, free mid-day activities!
As we approach summer break, I have a few recommendations for activities to embrace new experiences, and more of students’ creative sides to give their brains a break.
I personally recommend the paint and sip activity at Eclipse Di Luna in Buckhead; this is largely due to me being an artistic person, but the food there is good, and a little more on the expensive side.
If you’re more of an inexpensive outdoors person, I would recommend taking a stroll or even playing tennis in Candler Park, then walking to a nearby restaurant like Fellini’s Pizza, which is cheap but also delicious!
With days out like this, you get to indulge in a physically demanding activity while also being in a beautiful setting and having the opportunity to enjoy a reasonably priced meal!
If you are neither of the two types of people these activities apply to, and you want to take a day trip and get out of the city, you should go to North Georgia!
Dahlonega is the first place that comes to mind when I think of North Georgia, because it reminds me of Gilmore Girls, especially during the fall season. Dahlonega is a little over an hour’s drive away, depending on what part of Atlanta you live in, but if you can make the trip, I highly recommend you do it!
When it comes to preparing to return to school after a break, I find it best to reset mentally and physically. Take the day before going back to clear your mind and space!
I find it helpful to reorganize my backpack to make sure I have everything I need to learn, while also getting rid of the stuff I do not need so as not to overwhelm myself and my space.
Breaks away from school are an amazing time to take a well-needed mental rest from all the stress that high school can cause, while also exploring new interests. This is the kind of energy we need to bring into summer vacation.
