The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was notified by the Georgia Department of Human Services (GDHS) about there being insufficient funds to cover the month of November’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. People are wondering when these funds will be available to be saved up and to cover all of these issues.
As far as we know, the point of SNAP is to help provide food for families that are needed when they are going through hard times. It depends on the household income and size. It is used all across the world. USDA is now suspending the November benefits, SNAP cards originally ending on November 1st.
SNAP benefits have been funded entirely by the government. With the shutdown happening, it has become somewhere the government cannot provide. The shutdown is not only delaying these benefits, but it is also delaying more companies and continuing more issues. For example, Citizens are encouraged to use what they have left on the card before that date comes and won’t be able to use it. Luckily, this suspension is only for the month of November; households do not have any impact on any previous benefits.
USDA has been able to tap into emergency funds to still provide for those states. The government recommends that if you are on the SNAP benefit, then you should “check your EBT balance.” If you have any questions, then you should contact your local SNAP office.
SNAP has always been a thing that helps the world out if something is needed, but now people have to work even harder to keep food in their households.
