High School: a wild lifestyle full of work and stay-up late nights during the weekends(which are the best times of the year for teenagers), questionable fashion choices that other students decide to wear in school, and a full on enough drama that spreads around the school like a reality show. But, amidst all the chaos it’s immensely easy to just fall asleep into the abyss of slacking off. But before binge-watching all your favorite shows or movies, instead of working it off, let’s talk about why this might be just the worst idea you could ever think of.
Number one: GPA Roller Coaster; Seriously, let’s talk about the seriousness of our grades. This is like your academic credit score. Slack off now, and you’ll scream right down to the top of your lungs when you hit that steep end up the ride. Colleges are definitely looking at these things, and to come back up from a long ride you might as well stay on the track.
Number two: Crushed Dreams; If you’re looking forward to your dream college you better start working on it. Slacking off means kissing those acceptance letters goodbye. Colleges want to see the effort you’re putting into your performances. Don’t let what you do now ruin your future dreams.
Number three: Future You; Just imagine you in the future, struggling in college because of your career, because you didn’t build a plan in high school that you know you are gonna walk through. Why don’t you save yourself the future stress now and start early.
Number four: Lack of Skills you Don’t Have; High school isn’t just about memorizing the important stuff, but it’s actually about learning how to learn new things. Slacking off means you miss out on creating important studying skills, managing your time, and solving problems.
Number five: Teachers can ACTUALLY Help; Your teachers can be your biggest advocates or even fans that admire you; that’s just unless you get there, but if you talk to them about it or at least show them you care they can take their precious time just to help you. Slacking off during high school shows them that you don’t value what they do and could be wasting their time and effort. This can impact their willingness to even want to help you when you really need it next time.
In the end high school can be tough, but it’s an amazing opportunity to plan yourself for future success and keep going even if you fall asleep. Don’t let the temptation get to you unless you want to work as a Walmart Cashier, but go after your dreams and stay on top of everything. Stay focused, motivated, and have the time to think about your future self, thanking you, not crying.
