Currently our High School walls are a boring sea of nothingness, filled with just a dirty white background, a space that feels more needed for our environment and a space that feels like a missed opportunity. It’s time to understand that our surroundings offer a choice to lighten our mood and creativity. Think of colors like a calming deep blue or a vibrant yellow and orange to spark a great day. Just a small use of color might break the lack of mood in the morning and anything would make the school feel more welcoming and natural. It’s simply just about the use of color to help influence the atmosphere and support students’ mental behavior.
Furthermore, other students have discussed this topic about our school’s walls, “Plain and dirty.” To simply put it all together most students prefer the walls to have something that helps with their days, or just simply catch their eye when they come in. Specifically, Josie Archilla, a junior at Lakeside High School, finds the current state of the school’s walls to be “almost depressing” due to its boring color and the amount of years it has stayed to be “unchanging.”
Specifically, Josie shares and hopes that there could be a more colorful vibe to it to bring a welcoming atmosphere. Josie suggests the school should go for a picture like mural that helps bring our dynamics in the color and designs. Josie concludes that” Every month or couple of months students or teachers could decorate the walls with pictures, banners, paper decorations, basically just anything school appropriate.” This idea highlights the key importance of having monthly changes to our walls and adds on to our schools ratings of students feeling in the space they are learning or walking to and from their classes. This helps evolve the student body and helps shape the school’s environment. To conclude she believes that, “most students would appreciate the change.”
Another student Kimora Taylor, a junior, has a huge passion for anime art and believes that the school should be more vibrant. She says, “ I believe that a school should look more colorful and nice as students would enjoy looking at the art on the wall and it may improve moods.” She embraces her interests of drawing and desire to showcase her designs. To show this she hopes that it would give more of an artistic vibe of the school, making her idea about improving students’ mood to be selfless.
In conclusion, beyond the view of color, walls can become a powerful learning tool that helps students feel more at ease with where they walk. If you imagine it, you can see students smiling when walking into the school looking around at the walls filled with murals depicting historical moments of funny comments, bringing abstract color into our white walls. Importantly, we could showcase the incredible talent our students can offer here at Lakeside. Displaying students’ artwork shows our school’s creativity, indulges in school pride, and makes the environment filled with passion to every day school mornings. Art displayed on the walls aren’t just decorations for the school’s walls to be colorful, but they have meanings with different skills and perspectives.
