Many seniors this year have struggled with senioritis. It is severely impacting their grades and attendance that is crucial to graduation. A lot of them will say that they are stressed out or burned out, and here’s why.
Seniors have a lot to worry about in their final year. Not only do they have to balance their grades like previous years, they also have to worry about those grades being good enough for colleges to accept them. Along with these grades, the SAT also plays a big part in college acceptance with it being one of the main things the colleges will look at during applications.
However, some teens don’t even want to attend college. But if they do not even attend or apply for colleges, what will they do when they leave high school? I feel like this is a classic scare that a lot may have. They don’t want to attend the schools, but because of the job market, where are they supposed to go? There are very few jobs nowadays that accept people without degrees to work for them. With this scary job market and fear of their future, teens are left feeling alone internally with seemingly no place to go.
How are we supposed to help these teens? After all, these are crucial times in their life that end up determining their future. What I say is that, we offer more help. We try to figure out how these kids see their future. What they want to do, what they fear. If we close in on this now then we can plan for them for their close future.
We need to see what their main worries are. Are they scared that they won’t be enough? Or maybe it’s just that they won’t be able to provide for themselves and their family. Whatever the case seems to be, figuring it out now can prove to be very vital in helping prep their mind for the time ahead.
For mental health resources, finding a good adult or counselor that they trust completely will prove beneficial. A lot of ways that can help kids be successful is just someone wholeheartedly believing in them and praise. Some teens may have not received this treatment and attention, so they don’t know how to combat that self doubt that stems from it not being there. So in conclusion, reach out. Help yourselves and help others.
