If you’ve been looking for something to do in Atlanta, and you’re a Harry Potter fan… Then Ii have the perfect event for you. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is coming to the Fox Theatre from March 15th to March 30th. Whether you grew up reading the books or just love the movies, this play can be for everyone.
This Harry Potter play is all about what happens after the original series ends. It follows an older Harry and his son, Albus, who has to deal with his own challenges at Hogwarts. The play has amazing effects and a talented cast that brings the magic to life. The Fox Theatre is an iconic place to see this show live. It’s known for its beautiful theater that’s been running since 1929, and amazing actors. It’s a great spot for friends and families to gather and enjoy a night out.
I wondered if the Fox stood out from other theaters, such as Broadway. So I talked to Mrs. Tallon, who’s seen “Cursed Child” on both Broadway and at the Fox. She told me, “Honestly, it was way better at the Fox because of my seats. We were just ten rows back, and you could see everything up close. The Fox itself is so cool, I love the ceiling, and it just feels special no matter what show is there.” She also mentioned how the fox was just one three-hour show. Meanwhile, Broadway split it into two shows, with each being three hours long each. So, unless you’re a huge Harry Potter fan, you should probably watch it at the Fox.
I also interviewed my Journalism teacher, as she is a huge Harry Potter fan, and of course, she had to see the show for herself. She said her favorite parts of being able to watch this play at the Fox were, ¨The Fox Theater itself has such a rich history; the architectural design only enhances the ambiance of the viewing experience. It’s one of my favorite places in Atlanta to see live performances. The setting itself creates an underlying magical quality.¨ She also talked about how it could be a relatable play to high schoolers. She said, ¨Darco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius, delivers some of the best animation and humor to the ensemble cast. The characters in the show are struggling with similar themes of acceptance, fitting in, and finding their place, which my students face in their own lives, creating a relatable experience.¨
I think this show is a perfect opportunity to turn a book from our childhoods into a fun outing with friends or family. The Fox is a beautiful theater, with a talented cast, in the middle of Atlanta. It is friendly to all viewers and not out of reach in terms of price. So next time you want to make plans, don’t forget to consider the Fox Theater.
