On Friday, March 27th, Lakeside’s Class of 2026-27 went to prom at the Delta Sky 360 Club at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Everyone had been talking about it for weeks, so expectations were high. But now that it’s over, I wondered, did prom actually live up to the hype? Here’s what some of us thought about the night, from the best parts to what maybe could’ve been better.
For Maria Cortes, prom was great from the moment she walked in. “I was very amazed. Everything was so cool, and then when I went around and saw the field, it was very cool. I was like, wow, Lakeside pulled it off.” For her, the best part wasn’t the decorations or the food but it was the people. “Being with my girlfriend, but also seeing my friends that I haven’t talked to since eighth grade, all dressed up, and then us as seniors was very nice.” Maria said she’ll be bragging about the venue forever, which honestly I don’t blame her. “I’ll flex it forever, my high school prom at the Benz.” I asked if despite the good time she had, would she have changed anything? “Maybe the DJ. I feel like we would have danced more with a whole different vibe.” I’m sure others would agree with that.
Pablo also seemed to have a good night. “I was low-key amazed, like, the way they set up everything. It was so nice, the lights, the dance floor, the little dining hall. Everything was amazing.” His favorite part was pretty clear, “The food, most definitely.” As for the venue, Pablo was a fan. “I loved the venue, especially how we had a little field area. That was the vibe.” I also wondered if he would’ve changed anything? “I wouldn’t have changed anything. It was amazing.” I agree with him, there isn’t much I would change either.
Sofia Bouzida noticed that there were a ton of people. “I thought there were a lot of people, and I liked the view of the field.” Her favorite part? “The after party.” Sofia liked the venue but thought it could’ve been better if it was bigger. “Everybody was kind of crowded together, like a mosh pit, and not everybody was dancing around.” If he could change one thing, it would be less tables and chairs and more room for people to expand and dance around. “There was only a small dance floor.”
So, was prom worth it? Most people seemed to love the unique venue and spending time with friends, but some wished there had been more space or a different DJ. I personally had a great time, but I agree with Sofia, that the additional seating could’ve been used to dance. But how can we complain when we had our prom at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium! Whether you were there for the food, the music, or just to hang out, prom 2026 gave us all something to remember and maybe some ideas for making next year even better.
