As the calendar flips to April, a shift in the air is filled with excitement and curiosity throughout the hallways of Lakeside. The heavy silence of the library is broken by muffled giggles of students eyeing each other to play pranks. April Fools’ Day at Lakeside isn’t just a day about pranks; it’s about the fun that students spread with smiles and laughter.
It’s a fun tradition that helps students withdraw from assignments, tests, and homework, which is much needed during a stressful semester.
With our school’s unique tradition in April, friends are slowly turning into playful enemies after trying to trick one another…While some might see this as a distraction from school, it’s actually a great way to show how strong and astounding our community at Lakeside is. At Lakeside, a successful prank requires not only a whoopee cushion, but a strategic plan with good timing, and friends who take their role in the plan seriously.
Lakeside student Samia Prova (11th) mentions a valuable memory that turns her friend’s bedroom into a work of art. She expresses,” The best prank we ever did was gift wrapping my friend’s entire bedroom. Every single item was wrapped, and my friends were all in it! For her, this outstanding surprise prank was more than just a laugh, but a way of making life more fun, simply by making everyone smile and spending quality time with them.
She adds,” Honestly, school is sometimes boring, and we need some confetti in our lives to remind ourselves not to take school too seriously.” This comment reminds students to enjoy the fun times when we can and not pressure ourselves.
This doesn’t just apply to just Samia, but also to another student, Natalia Tamia (12th), who says,” The funniest thing I saw was when everyone sat on the floor when the teacher walked in instead of in their seats.”
She says, the teacher didn’t get mad but simply smiled as the students who also joined in with laughter and those who were in on the effortless prank.
Natalia adds, “All my time in school is filled with tests and assignments, but when everyone does pranks on each other, my school day is much more enjoyable.”
By all that’s said, not all pranks have to be excessive or just annoying. Pranks can be simple and fun with just a smile to top off your day. So as April 1st approaches, keep your eyes out for who might be playing pranks on you because this month, Lakeside isn’t Lakeside without a little bit of foolishness that brightens up the halls.
