The Unviersity of Michigan trophy case just welcomed one more in. The mens basketball team have gotten the job done for the second time in Michigan history. After a 37 year dry spell, the Wolverines have clawed through competition winning 37 out of the 40 games this season. Including beating some top teams on the way to winning March Madness such as: Alabama with Labron Philon, Tennessee with Nate Ament, and UConn with Alex Karaban.
The stat sheet was heavily filled by some of Michigan’s main guys. Yaxel Lendeborg (#23) led the team in points with 15.1 points on 51% for the field. Elliot Cadeau (#3) unselfishly found his open teammates about 5.1 times per game to assist them in scoring their buckets; most on the team. Standing at 7 foot 3 inches Aday Mara (#15) denied opposing players at the rim 2.4 times in each game.
For the championship game, the Wolverines faced UConn who is not new to being in the National Championship. UConn won back to back in 2023 and 2024, so they know what it takes to play in a big game such as this. UConn came into this game with a record of 34 wins and 5 loses.
The whole game Michigan held up to a slim lead but UConn kept fighting to keep it close. For the Huskies, it was Karaban who was putting the ball in the basket finishing with 17 points but, closely followed by 3 our teammates in double digits. The Michigan Wolverines had all but one player in the scoring column. With time expiring, the Wolverines pull up the slim win to become the 2026 National Champions. The partying and celebrating in Ann Arbor, Michigan will be for days to come. Congratulations to The University of Michigan!
