How do our past failures shape us?
The definition of failure is simply “the lack of success.” But to most people, it seems like it means the end of the world. If you fail once, many feel like they are doomed to it. Yet, this is not the case. Our failures should be what pushes us further and what makes us want to achieve more for ourselves and inspire others to do the same.
What seems to be the real road to slipping up is just the idea of failing. Taking the risks that could possibly lead to this could cause people to not do anything at all, resulting in a worse outcome. From UT Texas, they say that “because of the fear that this big, daunting monster called failure could present itself. The fear of failure is one of the top reasons we avoid taking risks, both as individuals in life and as leaders in our organizations.” This organization’s solution to this never-ending process of doubt is to turn the outcome into something positive.
Now, quoted from a student: “My mistakes have taught me to find different ways of success” – Aaliyah H.Being able to adapt from your work can be the first step in the right direction. For a famous example, Thomas Edison. The light bulb is one of the most used household items across the world. He claimed to have many, many failed attempts at his invention before he perfected it. Quoted from a student: “I failed the AP world final, but it showed me that I don’t have to be perfect and I can do badly on one thing but still succeed overall.” – Audrey T.
To start finding ways to grow as a person or academically is just how you believe in yourself. Some people put faith in themselves or put their faith in religion. Quote from a student: “I feel like failures are a way for you to do new things. I’m Christian, so I think God puts you through things that he thinks you can learn from and lean on him.” – Zoe R. Something as simple as this can boost your mood and motivation. It could make you strive for more.
The last simple way to avoid failure and try for success is to reward yourself. This is probably the most popular way that people avoid their own failure. Knowing that there’s a pot of gold at the end of a long rainbow could be all the encouragement that some people need. For example, you study for an hour for a class you aren’t passing, and after that hour, you go out with your friends to decompress. This is truly something that could help so many people to get to their goals.
In conclusion, failure is the fastest road to success. If you know what you lack, then you can find your way to change that.
